We observe Ageism Awareness Month every October. Unfortunately, even in 2026 older adults experience several different kinds of ageism in daily life. All kinds of ageism stem from implicit ageism, an unconscious bias towards people of different ages, which often takes the form of pre-conceived stereotypes about certain age groups. These stereotypes can appear in interpersonal ageism (comments or behaviors towards others), institutional ageism (policies or laws that discriminate based on age), and internalized ageism (how we feel about ourselves as older adults). Ageism is often not conscious or malicious. In some cases, ageist behaviors can look positive (e.g. calling older adults cute or adorable, which is a form of infantilization). At Infinity Care Solutions, we work to fight against these stereotypes and their harmful effects by putting the older adult at the center of our work. We create personalized care plans that account for the client as a unique individual with their own preferences, needs, and special circumstances, without making assumptions about them based on their age.

How We Uphold the Dignity of Every Client

There are several aspects of our work as Aging Life Care Managers® that keep respect and dignity for every older adult at the center of our work.

  • We work exclusively for the client. Though we work closely with medical professionals, home care companies, and other aging care specialists, we don’t accept referral fees from the services that we recommend and coordinate for our clients. While we listen to the concerns and opinions of involved family members to get a better picture of the client’s needs, we ultimately make our recommendations based on what we believe is in the best interest of the older adult.
  • Advocacy is in our job description. When medical professionals dismiss concerns or a streamlined system threatens to let an older adult slip through the cracks, we stand behind our client and make sure that their voice is heard. We can attend doctor’s appointments with the client and help coordinate medical care, ensuring that they are receiving quality care by removing any obstacles. Our advocacy extends beyond medical care – it can also be useful in resolving family disputes. When personal history and emotional bias cause conflict between family members trying to make care decisions for their loved one, our objective, professional, and experienced opinion can help resolve disputes and keep the preferences and safety of the older adult as the top priority.
  • We empower older adults to achieve their goals. Internalized ageism can prevent older adults from living the life they want when they believe that they are “too old” to do something. Care managers work to connect clients with the personalized support they need to achieve physical, mental, social, and emotional health. We help them find the solutions to the aging challenges they face, showing them that they can achieve their aging goals and live their best quality life. Our goal as care managers is to help older adults thrive as they age.
